Welcome to our second update for 2019. Last week we met as a Board and one of the matters discussed was the lockdown procedure from Friday 15 March. We are really pleased at how the lockdown was handled by the children, staff and parents who were on site. We have been advised that the Ministry of Education, police and the education sector will be involved in a comprehensive review of the lockdown procedures. Overall the Ministry was impressed with how schools reacted to the lockdown.
As it will take some time for this review to be completed at our meeting the following motion was passed:
Until the Ministry provides updated guidance on lockdown policy & procedures the Board agrees that if the school has to go into lockdown either self initiated or at the direction of the Ministry of Education or the Police or any other verified authority, a lockdown means no individuals enter or leave the school for the entire period of the lockdown.
We hope this clarifies our policy until the new Policies and procedures are outlined by the MOE.
A reminder that in May this year there are Board of Trustee elections. All parents are eligible to nominate themselves for election to a parent elected board.
All of the existing trustees are available to talk to individuals about what it means to be a Trustee. They can be contacted by email at the following addresses:
Sarah Lowe sarah@knightsstream.school.nz
Amanda Wall amanda@knightsstream.school.nz
Rodney King rodney@knightsstream.school.nz
Giarne Harrison giarne@knightsstream.school.nz

Prior to the Board elections there are opportunities to gain more information about this important role. On Thursday 9 May at 7pm there will be a meeting at the school led by Al Fone for anyone who is considering standing for the Board or just interested in how a Board of Trustees operates. There are Board meetings on 16 May & 5 June which you are welcome to attend as an observer. The new elected board will take over on 14 June and their first meeting will be on Thursday 20 June 2019.
