Our Tōtara Y4-5 team is seeking an enthusiastic Garden Expert and eager volunteers to support us once a week on a Friday morning (8.50am-10.30am) to run our exciting Garden to Table programme.
Garden Specialist Role Description: We require someone who is passionate about organic gardening, and has a willingness to share this knowledge with our students, staff and the wider school community. This person will oversee and plan the planting and maintenance of our vegetable garden, and guide a group of students to carry this through each week with the support of volunteers. They will also need to liaise with our Kitchen Specialist to plan, produce, to plant/harvest for our tamariki to cook in the kitchen as the ‘table’ component of Garden to Table. Our Garden Specialist does not need to be a trained teacher – just someone who is an experienced gardener and is great with kids!
Volunteer Role Description: Volunteers are an integral part of Garden to Table. They work closely with small groups of children to answer questions, encourage, monitor and oversee activities, whilst keeping children on track with tasks. We welcome any volunteer who is willing to contribute their time and enthusiasm – parents, caregivers, grandparents or eager individuals within our community. No special skills are required except an interest in gardening/cooking and the desire to work alongside children.
Please note: Due to the high cost of implementing such an elaborate program, these are voluntary roles. We can however offer you a hot drink and some delicious food at the end of each session (prepared by our budding young chefs!). Due to the current climate, volunteers will need to undergo a police vetting check and provide evidence of covid vaccination.
If any of these roles sound like you or someone that you know, please register your interest by contacting Whaea Emma at firstname.lastname@example.org
